Customer brings vintage Macintosh SE to Apple Store opening in Mumbai; Tim Cook’s reaction goes viral

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently visited India to open the company’s first official retail store in Mumbai. During the opening ceremony, a customer brought a vintage 1987 Macintosh SE computer to show to Cook. The customer, who identified himself as Jayesh, bought the machine in 1988 for INR 85,000 (approximately $1,150) and still uses it regularly for his graphic design work.

Cook’s Priceless Reaction to the Vintage Machine


Upon seeing the 34-year-old Macintosh SE, Cook was amazed and called it “absolutely gorgeous” and “a museum piece.” He reportedly spent around 10 minutes with the customer, discussing the history of the Macintosh and taking photos with him and the vintage computer. Jayesh later shared his experience with Cook on social media, which soon went viral.

During his visit to India, Cook also spoke about the potential of India’s market and the country’s culture. He noted that India is set for an “extraordinary journey” ahead and that Apple is “excited to be a part of it.” Cook further stated that Apple is committed to supporting Indian developers and entrepreneurs through the App Accelerator program in Bengaluru, which provides tools and training to develop iOS apps.


Apple’s First Official Retail Store in India


Apple’s new retail store, located in the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, is spread across two floors and covers an area of approximately 20,000 square feet. The store features Apple's full range of products, including the iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch, and AirPods, along with a wide range of accessories. It also has a dedicated area for Apple’s support team, called the Genius Bar, and offers a variety of services, including technical support and advice, workshops, and personal training.
